Our story
Sandbar is a sustainable family swimwear brand founded by Mel and Tom. It started with a young family, a dive log and a frustration: watching the ocean change, and the lack of awareness of the downstream impact of our choices. So we made matching family swimwear that takes plastic out instead, with 1 kg of ocean plastic removed for every piece sold.
From our founder
Originally from the UK, I grew up in the Canary Islands, with clear water and rugged coastline on the doorstep. I travelled most of the world before settling in Singapore, where our son Finn and daughter Skye were born.
After eleven years in the corporate world, which is where I met my husband Tom, I stepped away to spend more time watching our children grow up, and to build something that gives back to the ocean rather than taking from it.
That something is Sandbar. It began in Singapore, where our flagship store is, and in 2025 our family moved to the US to bring it to families here. The idea has not changed: beautiful matching swimwear for the whole family, made to last, and every one of them removing a kilo of plastic from the sea.

What Sandbar is built on
I grew up in a busy working family, so time together was precious. Weekends are for making every moment count, and nothing turns a day at the beach into a family photo quite like matching swimwear.
A diver since I was eighteen, the sea is where I find my peace. Watching plastic reach even protected marine parks is what started all of this.
Children get through a lot of clothes. Our swimwear is made from recycled plastic bottles, soft on the skin and built to be handed down.

I have been obsessed with diving since I earned my PADI at eighteen, travelling around South America. Since moving to Asia, Tom and I have become advanced divers across Malaysia, Thailand, the Maldives and the Philippines.

Recycled swimwear
Our swimwear is made with REPREVE, a recycled fibre engineered in North Carolina from plastic bottles. It carries U TRUST verification and FiberPrint traceability, so the recycled content can be proven, not just claimed.
Using it avoids making new fibre from oil and keeps more bottles from finding their way to the sea. Then we make it last: soft on the skin, UPF 50+ sun protection, and on our embroidered designs, motifs stitched into the fabric rather than printed on. Swimwear good enough to hand down to the next sibling.
