Seven Clean Seas.
Our partner and friend, committed to ridding the ocean of plastic for good. They build sustainable clean-up projects in some of the most polluted places in the world, employing local crews to do the work.
Our impact
Two things happen every time you buy Sandbar. One kilo of plastic is pulled out of the ocean by our clean-up partner, Seven Clean Seas. And less new plastic gets made, because our swimwear is made from recycled plastic bottles. That is our promise to the planet, funded on every piece, whatever the margin.
Sandbar customers have removed
64,031kg
of plastic from the ocean so far, on the way to 1,000,000 kg
Every item sold, online and in our stores, counted live. Each one is a kilo of plastic recovered by hand from oceans, beaches and waterways in Southeast Asia.
Ocean conservation with Seven Clean Seas
For every item you buy, we remove 1 kg of plastic and debris from the ocean, and we fund it regardless of profitability.

Our partner
Our partner and friend, committed to ridding the ocean of plastic for good. They build sustainable clean-up projects in some of the most polluted places in the world, employing local crews to do the work.

Where the work happens
Beyond beach clean-ups, their work has grown from Singapore into Indonesia, targeting some of the most affected coastlines in Southeast Asia: rivers, mangroves and shoreline, before the plastic reaches open water.
What comes out of the water
26%
The biggest share of what crews recover in Bintan is clothing fibre, followed by fishing nets and packaging. Yes, about 5% of it is sandals.
Recycled swimwear
Swimwear is usually made from nylon or polyester: plastics made by extracting oil and refining it, with a real cost to the planet.
So we use plastic that already exists. Our swimwear is made with REPREVE, a recycled fibre spun from plastic bottles, which keeps bottles out of landfill and the sea and cuts the need for new plastic. Its recycled content is verified by U TRUST and traceable with FiberPrint.
From bottle to beach
01
Bottles are collected.
Used plastic bottles are gathered, sorted and cleaned.
02
They become fibre.
Chipped, melted and spun into REPREVE recycled yarn.
03
Then Sandbar swimwear.
Made into fabric built to last and be handed down.
For the big blue dot
We have worked hard to cut plastic out of our supply chain, so nothing arrives with you that cannot biodegrade or be reused.
Our boxes are made from recycled card, our cards from sugar cane waste and the little bags inside from organic cotton. Keep them as produce bags for the weekly shop and save a few more plastic bags along the way. Even our stock arrives to us in plant-based bioplastic bags.
A platform to learn
Education is a big part of what we do. If we help the next generation understand plastic, better choices follow.
We run interactive talks for schools on plastic pollution, plastic as a material and how bottles become swimwear, with hands-on stations and an open Q&A. They work well as part of a sustainability curriculum or on days like Earth Day and World Environment Day. To book one, email hello@wearesandbar.com.
Impact questions
What our swimwear is made from, where your kilo goes and what arrives at your door.
We look at it two ways: what it is made from and what it does. Our swimwear is made with REPREVE recycled fibre from plastic bottles, with UPF 50+ protection and built to be handed down. And every item sold funds the removal of 1 kg of ocean plastic, 64,031 kg so far.
REPREVE is a recycled fibre made by Unifi in North Carolina from post-consumer plastic bottles. U TRUST verification and FiberPrint tracer technology mean the recycled content in the finished fabric can be tested and proven.
For every item sold we fund the removal of 1 kg of plastic by our partner Seven Clean Seas, whose crews recover it by hand from rivers, mangroves and shoreline in Bintan, Indonesia.
